Jonny, I am confident that you can get round the 66 miles. Yesterday's Old County Tops reminded me that a lot can be done by relying on base fitness and a desire to get round. I think that a lot of the endurance needed for these silly adventures persists in the legs for longer than you think. You are a talented runner and, even though you have had a comparatively quiet start to your running year, I am sure you are better equipped than you feel.

Admittedly Saturday has also reminded me of the painful DOMS side effect from MTFU pills, but it is a nice kind of pain...

Thanks. I agree, 10 hours is a tall order. For that, nothing can go wrong and I need good weather. I'm hoping I'll run with some of the people who got me around the Bob Graham so I'll be pushing the pace.

Make sure you check out some of the quieter stretches-i've walked some of them before and it was quite overgrown. They might be fine as it's still fairly early summer you're planning. Good luck!

As you get older Jonny you'll find shingles acts as the brake that tells you you've been doing too much. It's a great disease, - colourful, painful and itchy, - but at least it makes the decision about exercising for you

I know it is frustrating to ditch a race but it is the right decision. It is hopefully comforting that the doctor says that you have had a 'proper illness' as it confirms that you had good reason to feel so bad, and this was not an occasion on which you should have just MTFU-ed. [M-edTFU?]

Do make sure that you take it steady getting back into running, as glandular fever can be really nasty if you aren't careful. Shayda can give you some advice on what not to do!
